Chocolates selling in syringe tubes and perfume bottles: parents worried!

Kollegal shopkeepers are selling chocolates and juices in syringe tubes and perfume bottles, a move that has parents worried about the health of their children who consume these chocolates.

Chamarajnagar (Karnataka): Kollegal shopkeepers are selling chocolates and juices in syringe tubes and perfume bottles.

They are popularly called syringe chocolates. The chocolates are filled in syringes that have the needle cut off. These syringes are selling for Rs 5 each.

A new syringe in a medical shop costs Rs 5. Yet, traders are procuring these chocolates for Rs 2.50 and selling them for Rs 5 each. There are concerns that these could be used syringes.

Health Officers don't care

Despite the fact that these 'syringe' chocolates are being openly sold on the streets, the health department and corporation officials seem least bit bothered. As children consume these chocolates, parents are worried about their kids.

Saiyad Ejaj, a social worker said, "They are selling chocolates filling in syringes. They are cutting the needle and selling these chocolates. Children are attracted to it. We too don't know whether these syringes are used. The health department should take care of it. They are also selling spray juice in body spray bottles. No manufacturing date is mentioned on it. It may cause health issues in children."
