Six killed in bus accident in Karnataka

A bus accident at Kasargod near Mangaluru has claimed the lives of six people. Many others have been reported injured in the accident.

Mangaluru (Karnataka): Six people have died and many seriously injured when a private bus overturned while travelling from Sulya to Panathuru. The bus was carrying several people who were on their way to attend a wedding. The accident took place near Kasargod.

Police said the passengers were from Karnataka and were proceeding to Panathoor Ellukochi when the accident occurred at 11.30 am.

According to preliminary investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle while climbing down a hill and fell onto a house. The private bus belonged to Puttur's Suraksha agency.

"Many people were injured. We are yet to get their details. At least six people lost their lives," a police official said. The injured have been shifted to various hospitals of the district.

Police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. The accident took place near Kasargod at the Kerala-Karnataka border. A case has been registered at Rajapuram police station.
