Bengaluru (Karnataka): The city civic body took more than a week to demolish a tilted building in the city, which forced the evacuation of 35 families, an official said on Wednesday.

"BBMP has completely demolished the leaning building in Hebbal-Kempapura without damaging neighbouring structures," tweeted Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar with pictures.

Located on Vinayaknagar Street in Hebbal Kempapura, the four-storey building being used as a hostel for boys got tilted on February 5, spreading panic in the neighbourhood.

Realising the danger, BBMP vacated the families in the vicinity and started manually destroying to use machines at a later time.

The civic body vacated as many as 150 people from 35 families living in nearby buildings, most of whom sought cover in their relatives homes even as BBMP arranged alternative accommodation.

On Wednesday, the building which titled, following its neighbour using a JCB excavator to dig a deep and weaken its foundation, has been completely razed to the ground.
