Haveri, Karnataka: The government has suspended the health officer of Haveri after it was established that he administered COVID shot to agriculture minister BC Patil and his wife at their residence.

Dr Trilok Chandra, the commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, ordered the suspension of Dr Z R Makandar, who visited the actor-turned-politician's Hirekerur residence in Haveri on March 2 to administer the vaccine. This is in violation of the protocol as citizens are required to get vaccinated only at health care centres. The Haveri district authorities, too, have slapped a notice on Dr Makandar.

After taking the shot, Patil had tweeted, "Took the #COVID19Vaccine with my wife, at my Hirekerur house from the government doctors today. While 'Made In India' vaccines are being immensely appreciated by many countries, some vested interest groups are spreading false information about the vaccines (sic)." However, this did not go down well with netizens. Minister for health and family welfare Dr Sudhakar K also questioned his colleague.
