Arakalagud (Karnataka): The presence of mind and courage showed by the driver of a truck which caught fire in Arakalagudu Taluk in Hassan district in Karnataka averted a major disaster.

The truck was ferrying dry grass for cattle and suddenly caught fire in the middle of the road causing loss of lakhs of rupees. However, the driver drove the truck to a nearby lake before jumping off safely.

According to the eyewitnesses, "The driver took a huge turn and drove the vehicle into the lake and abandoned the vehicle before he jumped off from the vehicle." Meanwhile, firefighters were called in to control the situation.

A major tragedy could have resulted but the timely action of the driver saved the day.

ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಚೌರಗಾಲ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಸಮೀಪ ಇಂತಹುದೊಂದು ಘಟನೆ ನಡೆದಿದೆ. ಅರಕಲಗೂಡು ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಅಂಕನಾಯಕನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಸಮೀಪದ ಸೀಗೆಗೌಡರ ಕೊಪ್ಪಲು ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಆದರ್ಶ್ ಎಂಬುವವರು ಚೌರಗಾಲ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಗ್ರಾಮಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಒಣಮೇವನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಲಾರಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಾಗಣೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವೇಳೆ ಚೌರಗಾಲದ ಬಳಿ ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಲಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಒಣ ಹುಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಆಕಸ್ಮಿಕ ಬೆಂಕಿ ತಗುಲಿದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ರೂ ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ಮೇವು ಬೆಂಕಿಗಾಹುತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ.

ತಕ್ಷಣ ಜಾಗೃತಗೊಂಡ ಚಾಲಕ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಅನತಿ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಕೆರೆಯಂಗಳಕ್ಕೆ ಲಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಚಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಲಾರಿಯನ್ನೆ ನೀರಿಗೆ ಇಳಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಹೊತ್ತಿ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಬೆಂಕಿಯ ಜ್ವಾಲೆ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿ ಸಂಭವಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ಬಹುದೊಡ್ಡ ದುರಂತವೊಂದು ತಪ್ಪಿದ್ದು ಚಾಲಕನ ಸಮಯ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರು ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಬೆಂಕಿಯ ಕೆನ್ನಾಲಿಗೆ ವಾಹನದ ತುಂಬೆಲ್ಲ ಹರಡಿದ್ದರೂ ಧೃತಿಗೆಡದೆ ಚಾಲಕ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯರ ಮಾತಿನಂತೆ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ವಾಹನವನ್ನು ಧೈರ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಚಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ವಾಹನವನ್ನು ಕೆರೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿ, ಬಳಿಕ ಆತನು ಕೂಡ ಲಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಕೆರೆಗೆ ಹಾರಿ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಿಕೊಂಡು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ
