Bengaluru: After the tragic death of 22-year-old Bhanurekha Reddy, who was trapped in a flooded under pass at KR Circle in a car along with her other family members, another man identified as 27-year-old Lokesh, a resident of KP Agrahara was washed away in heavy storm water after he went down to a canal to check the depth of the water and his body was found near Batarayanpur.

Lokesh's dead body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem on Monday. A case of unnatural death has also been registered at KP Agrahara police station. On the other hand, the dead body of Bhanurekha has also been sent for post mortem examination. Her family has registered an FIR against BBMP officials.

The police at the Halasuru Gate police station registered a case under IPC section 304A (death by negligence) based on the complaint filed by the deceased's brother. The police said that the dead body of Bhanurekha will be handed over to the family after post mortem examination.

According to official sources, Bhanurekha's car with her family was submerged in water near Vidhana Soudha. Bhanurekha was out with her family who were visiting her from Andhra Pradesh. The family had booked a cab for their sightseeing trip when at the underpass of KR Circle, the cab driver drove into the underpass.

However, the water’s deceptive depth submerged the car as water soon gushed into it from all sides. Fire and emergency services personnel saved five others of the family and the driver, with the help of people. The victim as well as the others were taken to St Martha's Hospital where doctors declared Bhanurekha dead.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who rushed to the spot and took cognizance of the incident, said the family from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh had hired a car and came to see Bengaluru. Due to the torrential rainfall, the barricade at the underpass fell, and the driver took the risk of crossing the underpass, which the CM said he should not have done.

While declaring Rs Five lakh compensation for Banurekha’s family, the CM also said that the government would cover the treatment costs of all the other members who were injured in the incident. Reporters covering the incident alleged that Banurekha was denied emergency treatment at the hospital, to which the Chief Minister said we will investigate the matter and take action if there was any neglect or denial.
