Mysuru: Adi Shankaracharya's statue being built in Mysuru to be installed at his tomb at Kedarnath is nearing completion. Flash floods in Kedarnath destroyed a towering statue of the Hindu philosopher in 2013. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also ordered the construction of Shri Shankaracharya Study Center and Museum in Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.
Many sculptors were invited to send their models and sculptor Arun Yogiraj's two-feet-tall model sent to the prime minister was approved. Yogiraj has been working as per the instructions from the department. Final work on the Shankaracharya's statue is being completed at Saraswatipuram in Mysuru.
The statue is built with Krishnashila stone, which is believed to withstand intense heat, rain and bad weather. The statue will be transported from Mysuru to Kedarnath on June 18.
