Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police arrested the accused allegedly responsible for harassing a woman passenger on the city bus last week.
41-year-old Hussain, a resident of Perla, Kedimoole of Kerala made indecent gestures and continued misbehaving with the woman despite several warnings.
He was bought to the police station where the woman also slapped him in front of the police.
Speaking to the media she congratulated the police for arresting the accused in a short time.
"Many women like me who travel on the bus daily, suffer from such harassment. We have to raise the voice against these harassments so that we control such incidents. The Bus driver, conductor, and the rest of the passengers must provide moral support to victims," she added.
On Friday, the victim had shared her horrific experience of abuse in a local bus on social media post that went viral grossing nearly 65,000 likes at the time of publishing.
Urged by the readers, she had filed a complaint at the police station.
The woman was on her way from Konaje towards Pumpwell when Hussain boarded the bus and sat next to her. He started to touch her, irked by his behaviour and she warned him to sit properly.

Despite, the woman confronting the man, he continued misbehaving.
"Today (14-01-2021) around 3:45 pm I was on my way to pump well in Mahesh bus. This fellow (in the picture) climbed the bus from KS Hegde hospital stop and sat next to me. Acted as if he is busy speaking on the phone n started touching me with another hand, I felt uncomfortable and I moved a little but this fellow kept touching me. I shouted at him after some time he asked sorry and went backside. I was relieved but then after 3 stops, I'm seeing him getting down from another bus and got into Mahesh again and sat beside me. He repeated the same cheap activity this time I shouted and told him to move to another vacant gents seat but he refused," the victim wrote.
She further narrated how none of the other people on the bus intervened and sat there as an audience.
"In spite of me insulting him publicly, he started to touch again. Sadly the rest of the passengers (oops I can call it as the audience) just kept watching us without taking any actions including the conductor and driver," the post read.
