Davangere (Karnataka): A group of women in Karnataka who lost their jobs as bag makers are now helping manufacture medical equipment and PPE kits to make a living.
Led by Rashmi Prabhu of R Cube Health Care in Davangere, the women make gowns, PPE kits, masks, and surgical items used by medical staff at operation theaters and Covid wards. These products are supplied to hospitals with the backing of the district administration.
About 60 women are involved in the project and medical facilities such as Davanagere's Bapuji Hospital, SS Hospital, Hubli Kims and Subbayya Medical College of Shivamogga benefit from their work. For the women, the opportunity came as a blessing at a time when lockdowns to control the spread of Covid-19 badly affected their earnings.
