Chikkamagaluru: Two men were arrested by Karnataka Police in connection with the attack on a youth in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru district when the latter was eating out with a woman from different faith at a food joint, officials said. The hunt is on for the third miscreant involved in the attack.
The woman was also attacked and threatened "for visiting the eatery with a man of a different faith", they added. The youth and the woman visited 'Gopika Chaats' in Chikkaballapur. The accused who spotted the duo learnt that the man belonged to a different religion. They bullied him and subsequently attacked him stating that he shouldn't have come with the woman, according to the police.
The attack was caught on camera which has trickled out in to the social media. The young woman intervened stating that she knew him "very well", and that the strangers had no say in the eating out. The accused reportedly told her that "it was wrong on her part to visit the hotel with a youth who belonged to a different religion and that she should apologise for her mistake".
The police who are in possession of the video have identified the miscreants. Two of them have been arrested and were identified as Vaid (20) and Saddam (21), both residents of the city. Search is on for another accused identified as Imran. The arrest was made based on a case registered on the young woman 's complaint. Both the suspects have been remanded to Judicial Custody by a Court here.
"The victim has been identified as Ajith. He was seriously injured in the incident. The incident took place in the limits of Banakal police station in Mudigere taluk. The trio attacked Ajith when he was with the young woman. He was dragged over to the road and assaulted," police said. Ajith is at present being treated at the government hospital in Mudigere.
