Dharwad (Karnataka): 11 people were killed and nine critically injured in a head-on collision between a private bus and a tipper truck near Ittigatti village in Karnataka's Dharwad district on Friday morning. There were two doctors too among the deceased.
The accident occurred at around 8 AM and eyewitnesses said both vehicles were travelling at high speed when they collided.
While 11 passengers died on the spot, nine persons sustained grievous injuries in the incident, out of which few were critical in condition.
Tension erupted disrupting the vehicular traffic on the NH following the incident. On receiving information, the police personnel rescued the victims from the ill-fated bus.
Initially, all the injured persons were rushed to nearby Hospital. Later, seriously injured persons were shifted to Hubli KIMS hospital for treatment.
Such was the severity of the accident, that the bus' roof was blown away by the impact.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was heading towards Belagavi from Davanagere while the tipper was coming from the opposite side.
