Bengaluru: Declaring solidarity with the farmers' tractor parade in Delhi-Haryana border on January 26, 10,000 farmers in Karnataka are preparing hold rally in Bengaluru. Various organizations, including the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene are expected to join the rally. The rally is scheduled to commence at 9 am.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru City Police commissioner Kamal Pant denied permission for tractor rally. He stated that many slow-moving tractors would lead to traffic block in the city and would cause problems for people. A few organizations have sought permission for rally and but tractor rally is not permitted, Pant said. In addition, Republic Day would be celebrated across the city, security needs to be tightened and it would lead to further problems, he added.
The farmers can stage a protest at Freedom Park silently and the police department would allow fast-moving vehicles, but tractors are not permitted, he added.
"As the police have not permitted tractor rally, we would be staging our protest by holding the tricolour flag in restricted areas," said Kuruburu Shanthakumar, a farmers union office-bearer.
According to the farmers' plan, rallies would commence from Bidadi Industrial Junction (Mysore Road), Tumkur NICE road junction, Devanahalli Nandi Upahar (Nandi Cross), Hoskote Toll junction, City Railway station and eventually converging at Freedom Park near Anand Rao Circle. A press conference is scheduled at 12 30 am.
