Women farmers of Jharkhand get tractor driving lessons

As many as 46 women from two districts of Jharkhand are receiving agricultural farming training along with advanced farming technology at the Demotand Training Center under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation in Hazaribagh.

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Several rural women in Jharkhand's Bokaro and Dhanbad districts are receiving training to drive tractors as part of their farming initiatives.

As many as 46 women from these districts are receiving agricultural farming training along with advanced farming technology at the Demotand Training Center under the aegis of the Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation in Hazaribagh.

These women of rural areas used to stay at home and depending on the head of their family for their every need. But now these women farmers are constantly on the lookout for newer and more efficient ways of cultivating crops, and these women-led initiatives are bringing just that to the table.

For the last 5 days, these women are learning to drive the tractor. Along with this, the women are also started organic farming, hydroponic farming which grows nutritious, premium quality, pesticide-free greens flower farming, animal husbandry, poultry farming, fisheries in their villages.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Rekha Devi, a farmer said, she is learning to drive a tractor because she wants to ensure her participation in the family. And when she will go to her village after completing her training programme, the men of her village will be surprised to see her driving a tractor.

She also said that her husband will feel even more proud.

"Women have more ability to learn and they are driving tractors so perfectly now. I hope that this training will give them more confidence and when they will go to their village, it will be reflected in their works," said Tractor driving trainer, Gulshan Kumar.

"Many types of training are imparted in our institute. But this time, these women seemed to be very excited while receiving tractor driving training. In this training of 5 days, along with other work, we also informed rural women about various types of farming," said Director of Agriculture institute, Rajendra Kishore.

"Not only driving the tractor but also information about its parts has also been taught to them. Now it is expected that these women from remote rural areas will be able to take advantage of this training," he added.
