Dhanbad: Once a soldier always a soldier. And for a soldier, the nation always comes first, followed by family and then friends. One man who exemplifies this saying is Retired Colonel J.K. Singh from Dhanbad district of Jharkhand who expressed his desire to join Indian Army again, while the country is gripped by a pandemic and border tensions.
Retired Colonel J.K. Singh for whom the country has always been his first priority, was unable to hold his desire to fight for the loss of the nation, after twenty Indian personnel, were killed in a violent clash with Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.
Following which, Singh wrote a letter to Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane expressing his willingness to join the military again and urged the latter to take him back into service.
In the letter, the retired army man mentioned that he is proud of the Indian Army and the martyred soldiers, who fought till their last breath to safeguard their motherland.
"I want to serve the country again and fight for the nation until my last breath. I believe that the best place for a soldier is his country's border. His whole life is dedicated to the country. A soldier lives and dies for the nation," said Singh, who has been honoured with Gallantry award for killing the commander of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen.
Dedicating a poem written for the martyred soldiers, he recited a few lines of the verse that expressed his anguish over the matter.
"I have not only killed a terrorist but also seen my colleague dying in a battle. I know what it feels to win over an enemy and simultaneously lose a friend. I write poetry inspired by real-life events and that is why people connect with it," Singh told ETV Bharat.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Singh's wife Nitika Singh said," Once, when we were at Awantipur in Jammu and Kashmir, there was a terrorist attack on our camp. It was me who told him to hold weapons and fight for the nation."
"I have always supported him. I also want whenever the country needs him, he is there to serve for it. Whenever the need arises, he will again hold his weapons and fight for the nation," she said brave-heartedly.
