Ranchi: A unique app developed by Ranchi police traces stolen vehicles. Reportedly, the app has a feature that detects vehicles through the CCTVs installed in the city.
The matter came to light after police sent challans to people for violating traffic rules. Once the chalan reached them, the owners confirmed the vehicle registration numbers to be their, however, refused the ownership of the vehicle.
The city's traffic police concluded that vehicle lifters were using the registration numbers of other vehicles and transporting the stolen ones to other areas.
How does the app work?
The app contains an option, 'wanted', that blinks on detecting the stolen vehicle. The app contains registration numbers of those vehicles that are being used illegaly.
When the vehicle bearing the concerned registration number crosses a CCTV installation, the 'wanted' option in the app blinks, thereby, alerting police.
After the app has been put to use, seven such numbers have been identified. The police have also seen vehicle owners using two vehicles bearing the same registration number.
According to reports, 5 vehicles are stolen at an average on a daily basis in Ranchi. Most of which are sold at the nearby villages.
