Chaibasa: A suspected PLFI zonal commander Shanichar Oraon was killed during an encounter with security forces in the border area of Khunti and Chaibasa district on Friday. According to police, the slain Naxal had been carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head. Peoples' Liberation Front of India (PLFI) a banned extremist outfit.
The encounter between the Naxals and the security forces took place in the Pidung Bada Kesal forest which falls under Gudri police station limits of Chaibasa district. Confirming the encounter, officials said that the body of the Naxalite is being identified and that a search operation is still on in the jungle.

It is learnt that the Khunti police had been tipped off about the presence of Sanichar's squad camping in Rania area, planning to execute some major plan. Following which, a police team and CRPF 94 Battalion launched a search operation in the forest. On seeing the security forces, the militants began firing and in the retaliatory gunfire Shanichar Oraon was killed. However, some of the other PLFI members managed to flee from the area.
