Ranchi (Jharkhand): Naxals reportedly murdered a 30-year-old man, accusing him of being a police informer, in Jharkhand's Ranchi district.
The deceased, identified as Mahavir Munda, was working on his fields under the Tamar Police Station limits on Thursday, when he was abducted by armed Naxals and taken away towards the jungle around one kilometre away.
"He was working in the field when four people forcefully took him away towards the jungle. When we opposed, they threatened us that they would shoot us," said the victim's sister.
After the police received information about the incident, a search operation was launched to track down the Naxals.
"We continued with our operation all through Thursday night, but to no avail. The next morning we received information about a dead body in the jungle. The locals identified the man as Mahavir Munda. He was shot dead. The CPI (Maoist) has taken responsibility for the killing," said Ranchi (rural) SP Naushad Alam.
The Naxals had murdered the man and left his body in the jungle along with a pamphlet. The message on the pamphlet read that Munda had been killed for being a police informer and levy collection on behalf of the banned outfit.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the matter. The bomb disposal squad also conducted searches in nearby suspected areas.
