Chaibasa (Jharkhand): In a joint operation by the district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jharkhand, two big improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing 4o kg have been recovered from Goelkera police station area in Chaibasa on Thursday.
It is being suspected that the explosives belonged to Maoists cadres and were intended to target civilians and security forces.
According to police, the bombs were deeply planted inside the grounds that the security personnel were not able to dig them out after which the bomb disposal squad defused the bombs at the same spot.
The security forces were conducting regular anti-insurgency operations against hardcore Maoist Aatiram Manjhi alias Anal Da who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore and to inflict damage on the security forces these IEDs had been planted, police sources said.
In the wake of the recovery, combing and search operations were underway in the area.
