Jharkhand police seize 6.3 kg uranium, seven held

As many as seven men have been arrested and about 6.3 kg of uranium has been seized from their possession in Jharkhand's Bokaro. A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway.

Bokaro: Police in Jharkhand have arrested seven smugglers from Bokaro and seized nearly 6.3 kg of uranium from their possession on Thursday.

According to reports, the smugglers will be sent to jail after Covid testing.

Bapi Chand Dutt, a resident of the Chas area, was searching for a customer to sell one gram of uranium. Acting on a tip-off the police reached the spot and arrested the smuggler, a senior official said.

During interrogation, Dutt revealed the names of Pankaj Kumar, Deepak Kumar Mahato, Hareram Sharma, Balram Mahto, Krishnakant Rana and Anil Singh.

Police also arrested them from Telo, Harla, Balidih and Jaridih police station limits in ​​Chandrapura.

After conducted a raid in Jainmod, police recovered two packets of uranium of 900 grams each and 4.5 kg of uranium from Rajendra Nagar under Balidih police station limits.

Police sources revealed that the seized uranium packets were marked with a 'Made in USA' stamp and the smugglers are being questioned by the Intelligence Bureau along with Bokaro SP.

After accepting the charges, Bapi Dutt also revealed that he was trapped by a person in a hoax.

Notably, uranium is used in nuclear reactors and selling the chemical element in the open market is banned.
