Ranchi: After the arrest of underworld leader Dawood Ibrahim's close aide Abdul Majid Kutty on Sunday, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) have started an investigation to unfold links and involvements of the accused.
According to the sources, Majid was picked up from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and he has met gangsters like Dawood, Chhota Shakeel, Chhota Rajan.
It is pertinent to be mentioned here that Mohammad Fazal and Qureshi Shakal, the other two accused in the case, were arrested earlier. Their interrogation revealed the involvement of Abdul Majid.
After the arrest of Majid, Jharkhand ATS team is in touch with Gujarat ATS. This team is collecting information about Majid's bank accounts as well as other details of him.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Saket Kumar Singh, spokesperson of Jharkhand Police said," Many terrorists have bee arrested from Jharkhand in past and one of the Indian Mujahideen terrorists was also nabbed in Ranchi. So we are keeping eyes at every part of the state. Currently, the Jharkhand ATS team is working with other security agencies of the country and is constantly making efforts to reveal the networks of Majid."
"So far, the information about Abdul Majid has been found in the investigation that he was a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim and if Jharkhand ATS will crackdown the links of Majid, It will be a big success," he said.
"The ATS team is tracking Majid's financial transactions and information regarding his accounts. The ATS team is also ascertaining from where he used to get financial help, whether the money would have come from outside or not. Soon everything will be cleared," he added.
According to ATS, underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aides had plans to disturb peace in Gujarat and Mumbai and hence had gathered such a large quantity of arms and RDX.
Majid's name came to light after the other accused where interrogated then and since that time he was absconding. He will be sent for pre-arrest Covid-19 test and will be interrogated further, officials said.
Notably, Majid, a fugitive accused in the 1996 Mehsana landing case, was absconding for 24 years and was detained from Jharkhand on Sunday.
