Under the CSR fund, a grant of about Rs 13 crore was granted for the village out of which Rs 1.5 crore was allocated to him for the first phase in which he received only Rs 30 lakhs till date.

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Nestled in Jharkhand, Daihar is a remote village, which has been deprived of basic amenities like drinking water and motorable roads. Women in the village were forced to fetch drinking water from the nearby wells, which led to the death of a woman.

The incident became a turning point for the village as one of the residents of the village, Amitesh Kumar, an IIT alumnus and an engineer in ONGC, decided to give a facelift to the village.

Kumar with the help of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund from ONGC, Reliance and Ola constructed water storage facilities, hotspot centres and street lightings in the village. Under the CSR fund, a grant of about Rs 13 crore was granted for the village out of which Rs 1.5 crore was allocated to him for the first phase in which he received only Rs 30 lakhs till date.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Kumar said, "The death of the woman in my village made me think about the problems being faced by the people in the village. I made it a point to develop the village as it was my responsibility."

He further said that he has to work for the development of the villages in the country, which he started from his own village.

Amitesh ensured the providing pure drinking water in the village with a population of 7,000 people. . Hotspot centres have also been set up in four places in the village, which proved beneficial to the students during the Covid induced lockdown.

A committee of four people, including three friends of Kumar, are striving for the development of the village. The panel has chalked out a plan for the development in a phased manner.

ONGC approved funding for drinking water while Ola gave money for the beautification of the village and the Reliance Foundation granted financial assistance for roads and 50 pucca houses. Simultaneously, CCTV cameras will be installed in the entire village and pucca roads will also be laid.

In the future, a modern hospital, school and 24 hours free electricity through solar power panels will be provided. Meanwhile, Kumar is getting the support of all the villagers. The work, which was earlier seemed to be difficult, was done with cooperation, hard work and determination.
