Disabled, elderly suffer to get their pension in Jharkhand's Jamtara

In Karmatamar block of Jamtara district, elderly people who are ill, disabled and cannot walk or stand on their own are forced to visit the government offices to either get their pension resumed, which in most cases stalled to see if the person is alive, or enroll themselves for starting a pension.

Jamtara (Jharkhand): A number of disabled and elderly people, who are entitled to the pension, are forced to visit government offices, when they can barely walk on their own, to give proof of their existence.

In Karmatamar block of Jamtara district, elderly people who are ill, disabled and cannot walk or stand on their own are forced to visit the government offices to either get their pension resumed, which in most cases stalled to see if the person is alive, or enroll themselves for starting a pension.

There are people who have not got their pensions for over three years and there's no one in the government offices to address their problems.

One Lalu Mahato, who is bedridden, was brought to the office on charpoy but no one was there to resolve his problem. He has not got his pension for almost four years.

Rajender Mandal, a social worker, told ETV Bharat that there was no one to help these disabled and elderly people.
