Cybercriminals create fake FB account of Jharkhand Police DGP

The notoriety of cyber gangs seeking money by creating fake profiles on Facebook is not stopping anytime soon. This time, cybercriminals have demanded money by creating a fake profile in the name of the Jharkhand Police Chief, DGP Neeraj Sinha.

Ranchi: The notoriety of cyber gangs seeking money by creating fake profiles on Facebook is not stopping anytime soon. This time, cybercriminals have demanded money by creating a fake profile in the name of the Jharkhand Police Chief, DGP Neeraj Sinha.

Friend requests were sent to the acquaintances of DGP Neeraj Sinha with fake profiles. Photographs of his real profile were used to create fake profiles. After the matter came to light, the DGP of Jharkhand Police has appealed to his acquaintances to be wary of the fake profiles.

Cybercriminals have so far created fake profiles in the name of many IPS and police officers. Earlier, fake profiles were used by using photographs of more than a dozen officers including Kolhan DIG Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Ranchi DC Chitra Ranjan, Bokaro SP Chandan Jha, CID ADG in-charge Amarendra Kumar Verma, retired DGP Bibhuti Pradhan, retired DSP Arvind Kumar Sinha. So far not a single cybercriminal has been arrested in any case.

Cybercriminals create new profiles using photos of Facebook's real profile. Once the fake profiles are up and running, the friend request is sent to the people involved in the friend list of the person concerned. Later cybercriminals demand 10 to 20 thousand rupees through mobile payment apps, citing an emergency. The trend of such cheating cases has increased during the lockdown.
