4 killed in lightning strikes in Jharkhand's Palamu

At least four people were killed by lightning in Palamu district of Jharkhand on Friday. While many people were reported to be injured as heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed several areas of north India.

Palamu (Jharkhand): Four people were killed and six others injured on Friday in lightning strikes in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said.

Of the four, one died outside his house, while another on a road in Chhatarpur in the district.

In Nawadih, one person died and six others got injured when they were struck by lightning as they stood under a tree during a downpour.

Another man died while he was grazing his cattle in the same area, the police said.

The injured were rushed to nearby health centres, the police said.

The deceased were in their 20s. As of now, total of 12 people were killed due to lightning in the state.

Earlier on Thursday, at least 83 people were killed by lightning in various districts of Bihar, and 24 in Uttar Pradesh while many people were reported to be injured as heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed several areas of north India.

Out of the 83 dead in Bihar, 13 people were killed in Gopalganj district alone.

Heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning has lashed various parts of Bihar even before the onset of the monsoon in the state.
