Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday held a meeting wherein BJP MLA Vinod Sonkar along with party workers were present in Jammu.
Speaking to the media, Sonkar said, "Nobody had the courage to modify Article 370 but only us. The article was temporary hence it has been modified. Under the leadership of Modi, Amit Shah has been able to take this big decision."
"It is time to celebrate for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. And this is not the first time that there has been lockdown in the valley. It has happened earlier too," Sonkar told reporters.
On being asked about politicians being on house arrest, Sonkar said that no politicians were kept that way.
Despite the central government slowly easing movement restrictions in Kashmir's main city Srinagar, Kashmiris are still unable to establish contact with their near and dear ones living within or outside the now Union Territory of J&K.
Earlier this month, Parliament had modified Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and also passed Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Act 2019, bifurcating the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir with Assembly and Ladakh without it.
