Terror, stone-pelting incidents reduced in J&K after Article 370 modification: MHA

Union Home Ministry has informed that terror incidents have reduced to 206 from 443 and stone-pelting incidents have witnessed a sharp drop to 310 from 703 since the modification of Article 370 in 2019. Meanwhile, the number of civilians and security forces martyred in terrorist incidents across Jammu and Kashmir came down to 45 from 54 and 49 to 125, respectively.

New Delhi: Terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have reduced from 443 to 206 since the modification of Article 370 last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed Parliament on Monday.

In a reply to question by Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai, MoS Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said, "After 5th August 2019, the number of terrorist incidents, stone-pelting cases registered, civilians killed and security force personnel martyred in terrorist incidents in Jammu Kashmir have reduced significantly..."

The data provided by MoS Home Affairs showed that Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 206 terrorist incidents and 310 stone-pelting cases between August 5, 2019, and August 31, 2020, less from 443 terrorist incidents and 703 stone-pelting cases between August 7, 2018, and August 4, 2019.

According to the data provided by the MHA, the number of civilians and security forces martyred in terrorist incidents across Jammu and Kashmir came down to 45 from 54 and 49 to 125, respectively, in the 393 days i.e. from August 5, 2019, to August 31, 2020, and August 7, 2018, to August 4, 2019.

Replying to a question by Anil Desai that whether the government has successful educated common people to stay away from Anti National activities, G Kishan Reddy said, "The government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and has taken various measures, such as strengthening of security apparatus, strict enforcement of the law against anti-national elements, intensified cordon and search operations to effectively deal with the challenges posed by the terrorist organisations."

"While keeping a close watch on people who attempt to provide support to terrorists and initiating action against them, other steps by Law enforcing agencies include enhanced interaction between police and public at various levels, sharing of intelligence inputs on real-time basis amongst all security forces operating in Jammu and Kashmir, intensified area domination of militancy affected areas by the deployment of additional Nakas and patrolling by security forces etc," he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5, 2019, had announced the modification of Article 370 and 35A in the Parliament, which resulted in the bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
