Srinagar: Suspected militants fired towards the residence of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Anwar Khan in the Nowgam area of Srinagar district, a police officer said on Thursday.
"The attack took place at around 11:30 am today. During the attack, constable Rameez Raja received bullet injuries and was referred to SMHS hospital for treatment. But unfortunately succumbed on the way, " a senior police official told ETV Bharat.

The official further said that militants fired indiscriminately towards the residence of BJP leader, Anwar Khan, in the Aaribagh area in the outskirts of Srinagar city. Meanwhile, the BJP has condemned the attack on Khan.

"We condemn the brutal attack on our senior leader Anwar Khan. He is safe as the security personnel deployed retaliated strongly," the statement by BJP read.
