Suspected militants attack BSF convoy in J-K's Kulgam; gunfight underway

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security personnel after the ultras opened fire at a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. The convoy was headed for Srinagar from Jammu when it was attacked.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Kulgam (Jammu & Kashmir): A group of suspected militants has opened fire on a BSF convoy today afternoon in Malpora Mir Bazaar Qazigund area of Kulgam district. According to sources close to the development, the suspected militants indiscriminately opened fire on the BSF party on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway which was on patrol duty.

It is learned that the attackers have holed up in a nearby building. The security forces at the site have cordoned off the building. A gun battle between the forces and attackers is underway and the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed after this incident.

'There were no reports of any injuries in the attack but the assailants were trapped,' said sources.

According to Kashmir Zone Police, reinforcements have reached the spot and senior officers of the police, CRPF, and the Army were also present there.
