Srinagar police arrests six over alleged terror links

Srinagar police on Friday arrested six indivuals who are believed to have involvement in four terrorist attacks against security forces on Srinagar-Jammu highway this year.

Srinagar: The Police on Friday arrested a six-membered LeT module which assisted the slain Pakistani militant Saifullah in carrying out four attacks on security forces on Srinagar-Jammu highway this year.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said an investigation into the attacks on security forces on September 28 on the highway near Tengan, culminated in the arrests of six people. Two CRPF personnel were martyred in the attack.

"These suspects were identified and subsequently picked up by the police for questioning. During the interrogation, they confessed about their involvement in assisting militants in the attacks. They were the associates of slain LeT ultra Saifullah who was killed in the Barzulla encounter earlier this week. Saifullah was involved in all the four attacks on security forces on the highway," Kumar said in a press conference.

The arrested individuals were identified as Waseem Ahemd Ganai, Faisal Mushtaq Ganai, Shakir Ahmed Dar, Suhail Shabir Ganai, Umar Nisar and Sahil Nisar.

The IGP said that six vehicles including a Tavera, two Alto cars and three bikes were also seized from the arrested militant associates.

Four militant attacks took place between August 14 to October 5 this year on the highway and in Budgam district in which four security forces including two policemen were killed.

"The first attack was carried out by militants at a police party on August 14 in which two policemen were killed and three others were injured. On September 21, militants attacked RoP at New Bypass in which there were no casualties. On September 25 militants attacked the CRPF party at Chadoora in Budgam district in which one CRPF man was killed and his weapon was also snatched. On October 5, another attack was carried out at RoP of CRPF at Taingan on the highway in which two CRPF men were killed and four others injured," the IGP said.
