Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The Srinagar-Leh highway has been cleared for one-way vehicular traffic on Wednesday after four months by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
For now, only one-way and small vehicles will ply on the highway. The 434-km long Srinagar Leh highway was closed for traffic on December 31 last year during the winter season.
The highway remained closed for about 112 consecutive days due to several feet of snow accumulated on the road. Although the road was cleared off snow several times by the BRO, several fresh spells of snowfall further delayed the road opening.
Over 150 trucks are stuck at Gagangir, Sonmarg, Gand and Wusan areas of Ganderbal for the last 50 days due to the road blockade. However, they have been advised to wait a few days more by the authorities and the traffic department.
