Sopore attack: IGP Kashmir visits slain civilian's home, assures impartial enquiry

IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar has assured an impartial enquiry to the family of the slain Srinagar resident, Bashir Ahmad Khan, who was killed in the Sopore attack on July 1. Talking to ETV Bharat, Kumar said that he along with his senior colleagues had visited the family "to pay condolences and pray for the departed soul" and upon the insistent demand of the family has agreed for an impartial investigation into the death of Khan.

Srinagar: Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) on Saturday visited the home of the slain Srinagar resident, Bashir Ahmad Khan, who was killed in the Sopore attack on July 1.

"I along with my senior colleagues, at around 12:30 pm, visited the bereaved family to pay condolences and pray for the departed soul," Kumar told ETV Bharat.

He said, "I listened to their grievances and tried to clear all doubts. They were demanding a probe into the incident as such I have assured them an impartial investigation."

"I also told them that they can check CCTV footage of the incident. We are ready to cooperate by all means," Kumar added.

Soon after the incident, police claimed that the civilian was killed in militant firing which also saw the killing of a CRPF personnel and injuries to three other paramilitary men.

However, in a video statement that was shared on social media, the slain man's family alleged that the civilian was killed by the CRPF personnel.
