Security forces neutralise two militants in encounter at Shopian

Security forces killed two militants in an encounter in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Forces are yet to verify the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants.

Srinagar: Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Chakura area of Shopian district after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants in the locality, a police officer said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire at security forces' positions.

The official added that authorities have taken steps to ascertain the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants.
