Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (JKPC) chairman Sajjad Gani Lone on Tuesday announced that his party has pulled out of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).

Seven mainstream parties, including the National Conference (NC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), had joined hands under the banner of the PAGD and swept the DDC polls last year by winning 110 seats.

However, despite the alliance's notable performance in the polls, Lone decided to end his party's relationship with the PAGD.

In a letter addressed to President PAGD Farooq Abdullah, Lone said, "After holding a meeting of the highest decision-making body of the party it was decided to pull out of the alliance. There has been a breach of trust between partners which we believe is beyond remedy."

The PAGD, which has several Kashmir parties as its constituents, is pressing for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's special status and statehood.

Pertinently, Lone was only released in July last year from nearly a year-long detention, days ahead of the first anniversary of the Centre's move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution.

Lone, a former cabinet minister in the PDP-BJP coalition, was kept at makeshift jail at Centaur hotel on the banks of the famous Dal Lake along with other leaders from mainstream parties. Later in February, Lone and PDP leader Waheed Parra were moved to their residences and were kept under house arrest.
