Jammu: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will be visiting Jammu for four days starting today. During the visit, Bhagwat will be participating in a number of events as a part of the RSS tradition. This is Bhagwat's first visit to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. Bhagwat had previously visited Jammu in 2016.

During his visit, Bhagwat will be addressing a seminar at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University on Oct 2. He will also review the progress made by RSS functionaries on various projects undertaken in J&K. Some of the areas that are being worked upon include - education, public awareness, health, rural development, ecology, water conservation, social equality, among others.

While on Oct. 3, the Sarsanghachalak will address RSS functionaries and volunteers through video conferencing and hold meetings with pracharaks in the union territory of J&K. The abrogation of Article 370 had been a long-cherished dream of the RSS, which was fulfilled by the government when it revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories - J&K and Ladakh.

The RSS had welcomed the move and the general secretary of the organisation Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi had, in a statement, said that the integration of the state was now complete. "From the beginning, it was the intent of the Constitution makers, that the Constitution of India should be equally applicable to all the states of India. Due to the immediate special circumstances, the provisional provision of Article 370 was added to the Indian Constitution,” he said.
