Srinagar: Unemployment is one of the most talked about subjects in the conflict-ridden state of Jammu and Kashmir. As the unemployment rates in the state have reached a frightening proportion, more and more youth have been picking up entrepreneurship as their career option.
Javed Ahmad Bhat, a young man residing in Pulwama district of the valley, had a certain inclination towards his village and agriculture as a profession. Since then, he has taken up growing vegetables as the main enterprise.
Like other youth, Javed did not wait for a job but rather started doing his own business in order to earn a livelihood for himself and provide employment to many others.
The young man believes that growing vegetables is better than fruit farming, as the former is a quick process.
"Fruits take years to grow and the risk of damage is high. So, I prefer vegetable farming as it has good profit also," he said.
However, Javed opines that instead of resorting to chemical fertilizers, one should prefer organic ones.
"I believe that, if someone has a piece of land, they should utilise it for farming and earn good profit from it," he said.
