Detained Kashmiri leader taken to hospital

Naeem Akhtar of the People's Democratic Party was lodged at the MLA hostel for the last 20 days and developed health complications overnight. He was taken to a hospital by a senior police officer who found him unconscious.

Srinagar: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former minister Naeem Akhtar who is currently under detention was shifted to a hospital on Thursday for treatment.

Akhtar was lodged at the MLA hostel for the last 20 days and developed health complications overnight.

Talking to ETV Bharat, PDP spokesperson Najmu Saqib said the senior leader was shifted to Khyber hospital due to some health issue and has been admitted there.

"He is better now but will remain under medical observation," Saqib said.

Taking to Twitter, Akhtar's daughter Shehryar Khanum said that her father was taken to a hospital after he was "unconscious for 40 minutes" in detention.

"At least a senior police officer had the courtesy to inform me around midnight that my father @shangpal in detention was in the hospital after he was unconscious for 40 mins. Saved by a whisker - some days back all alone in the whole building. Grateful to his fellow detenues. Prayers!" she tweeted.

PDP leaders including Naeem Akhtar, Sartaj Madni, and Mansoor Hussain were detained by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on December 21, just ahead of the District Development Council (DDC) election results.
