Srinagar: The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Thursday released its first list of 27 candidates contesting in the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PAGD, according to the list, fielded 27 candidates from three parties for the Kashmir region where elections are to be held on November 28.
According to the list, 21 candidates belong to National Conference while four are from Peoples Democratic Party. It further mentioned that two candidates belong to Peoples Conference.
“Candidates of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) contesting in the first phase (elections) have already filed their papers. The list was conveyed to the parties. I am tweeting this in response to some media reports of the list not having been issued yet,” PAGD spokesman and PC chairman Sajad Gani Lone said in a tweet.
Pertinently, today was the last day for filing nominations for the first phase of elections.
On Monday, Farooq Abdullah had announced in Jammu that parties under the banner of PAGD will contest polls on their symbols but there will be only one candidate of the alliance in each segment.
"We don't have a common election symbol as the polls were announced in a hurry," he had said, adding that candidates will contest these elections on their respective party symbols.
Last month, PAGD was formed to fight for the restoration of the special status of erstwhile state and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
The PAGD comprises of six mainstream political parties viz National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference (PC), Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) and Awami National Conference (ANC).
The BJP too had on Monday released its first list of 72 candidates for the upcoming elections.
