Security forces capture militant after gunfight in JK

One militant was apprehended during a gunfight in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district. The arrested militant has been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Bhat who had joined militant ranks three days ago.

Srinagar: A newly-recruited militant has been captured with an AK 47 rifle during a gunfight with the security forces in Chadoora area of central Kashmir's Budgam district on Friday.

"A militant opened fire at a joint mobile vehicle check post at Chadoora today morning. The area was cordoned off and extensive searches were carried out during which one militant was apprehended with one AK 47 rifle," Lt Col Rajesh Kalia, a defence spokesperson based in Srinagar said.

The arrested militant has been identified as Jehangir Ahmad Bhat who had joined militant ranks three days ago.

"The joint security forces while showing restraint managed to capture a militant alive from the gunfight site. He had earlier fired upon the search party," SP Budgam Amod Ashok Nagpure said while Speaking to the reporters soon after the completion of the operation.

Earlier, a gunfight raged after police, army's 53 RR and 181 bn CRPF launched a cordon on the specific input about the presence of one to two militants in an open field.
