Militant attack in khanyar Srinagar, one policeman killed

Police officials said that unidentified militants fired upon a police party in the Khanyar area in which the policeman identified as SI Arshid Ahmad was injured. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Srinagar: A Sub-Inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir police, who was critically injured in a militant attack in Srinagar's Khanyar area Sunday afternoon has died.

Police officials said that unidentified militants fired upon a police party in the Khanyar area in which the policeman identified as SI Arshid Ahmad was injured. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Sources said that the police officer was from the Kupwara district and was on Probationary Training at Khanyar police jurisdiction.

Officials said that additional forces have reached the spot and the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers, adding, that a case under the relevant section of the law is being registered in this regard.
