Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti's mother Gulshan Nazir failed to appear in front of the Enforcement Directorate officials on Wednesday. Mufti's mother was scheduled to appear at the ED office in Srinagar for questioning in a money laundering case. This was the second time that she did not appear for questioning despite being summoned by the agency.

The party, however, said that it would issue a statement in this regard soon. While the agency did not provide any update on the development.

Earlier, on April 8, 2021, the ED had sent the summon order to Gulshan Nazir for questioning for the first time and asked her to appear before the agency on April 15. However, she did not appear before the officials, citing health reasons and concerns due to the pandemic. Following which the agency summoned her again on July 6, directing her to be present at ED's Srinagar office on July 14 (today).

"The government of India is misusing agencies to intimidate political opponents. My mother was summoned because PDP has refused to meet the delimitation commission," Mehbooba said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court today adjourned the hearing of the money laundering petition filed by Mehbooba Mufti till August 13, 2021.
