Srinagar: In the wake of surge in Covid-19 cases, Kashmir has reported the first case of virus mutation known as N440K mutation, while Jammu has already confirmed 28 such cases.
Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Atal Dulloo had on Thursday said they were regularly sending samples to INSACOG for identifying the mutation trends in the virus.

He said of the 381 samples sent for genome testing, only 1 case reported virus mutation. The virus mutation has been identified as N440K.

Officials said that the same kind of mutation has been found in some samples from the Jammu division and it was very common in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana.
Jammu and Kashmir reported 1965 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday while eight more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. There are 16,094 active cases in the J&K - 6,761 in Jammu and 9,333 in Kashmir.
