Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday barred Kashmiri journalists from attending a press conference called by Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his residence.

According to reports, the area leading upto his home was sealed off with additional security deployed across the region.

Besides, nearly 30 journalists arrived at separatist leaders residence in Hyderpora after they received an 'official' invite from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference inviting them to the first presser after the modification of provisions in Article 370.

According to them, the security personnel deployed outside Geelani's residence asked them to disperse and cited the imposition of Section 144 in the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police will reportedly investigate the invite send to the journo on Tuesday evening.

Geelani heads the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir and advocates the state's merger with Pakistan.

Restrictions on the movement or assembly of people have been lifted from most areas of the valley, but security forces continued to be deployed to maintain law and order.

While landlines across the valley were functional, voice calls on mobile devices were working only in Kupwara and Handwara districts of north Kashmir.

The officials said some areas in Srinagar witnessed an increased movement of private transport, while few autorickshaws were also seen plying in some areas of the city.

However, normal life remained severely affected across the valley due to shutdown.

The National Conference, whose leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are among those detained in the Valley after the Centre revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status on August 5, also took part in the protest.
