Anantnag (Jammu & Kashmir): An alleged Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant was gunned down on Saturday in an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Verinag area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.
The slain militant has been identified as Iqbal Ahmad of Anantnag's Dooru area.
"The militant's body has been recovered, but search operation is still underway in the area," informed sources.
The gunfight began after the militants hiding in the area opened fire at the security forces who were carrying out a search and cordon operation.
"Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to trace the remaining militants," the police sources said.
Meanwhile, internet connectivity has been suspended in the district as a precautionary measure.
Earlier on Friday, security forces had gunned down four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)terrorists during an encounter in Panjaran area of Pulwama district.
