Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Jammu and Kashmir police have claimed to have killed 132 militants this year, during various militancy-related incidents in the Union Territory.
"In 2021, most of the killings took place in July when 33 militants, four security forces personnel and a civilian were killed. In September, 14 casualties have been reported, which included nine militants, three security forces personnel and two civilians," a senior Jammu and Kashmir police official told ETV Bharat.
"January has been the most peaceful month this year. Ten militants and one security force personnel were killed during the month, " he added.
Last year, 321 people were killed in about 140 militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, including 232 militants, 56 security forces personnel and 33 civilians.
"The number of militancy-related incidents has come down as compared to last year. By the end of September this year, there have been a total of 94 militancy-related incidents reported in Jammu and Kashmir. 176 people have been killed so far. Among them, 132 are militants, 25 security forces personnel and 19 are civilians," the officer said.
He claimed that the youth of the Valley have abandoned the path of militancy and are engaged in social welfare work.
