Srinagar: At least three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and one Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel was injured in twin militant attacks in strife-torn Kashmir.
According to reports, three CRPF jawans were martyred in a militant attack at Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, while the CISF jawan was injured in Srinagar grenade attack.
"At around 6:30 pm, militants attacked CRPF party of 92 bn (A Coy) deployed at Wangam area of Handwara's Qaziabad village in North Kashmir's Kupwara district, " Pankaj Singh, CRPF Spokesperson based in Srinagar told ETV Bharat.
He said, "During the attack, two jawans were killed on the spot while one succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. One more jawan who received bullet injuries in the abdomen and leg is being under observation at the medical facility."
One unidentified body has also been recovered from the spot, officials said.
"The identity of the dead body is yet to be ascertained as no weapon was recovered from him, " Singh added.
The CRPF jawans have been identified as Ct Santosh Mishra, Ct Chandra Shekhar, and Ct Ashwani Kr Yadav.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a CISF jawan was injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade at the Power Grid Corporation of India in Nowgam area of Srinagar city.
"One CISF personnel received minor splinter injuries in this incident.
It is pertinent to mention that Power Grid Corporation of India in Wagoora, Nowgam is manned by the CISF, " a senior police official said while confirming the incident.
Security forces have launched a massive search operation to nab the attackers.
The attack on forces comes close on the heels of the gunfight, raging since Saturday in north’s Kashmir’s Handwara, during which a renowned Indian Army colonel and four other security personnel were killed just a day ago.
