Udhampur (Jammu): Ahead of Independence day, Jammu and Kashmir police beefed up security in Udhampur district, with additional army force and local police deployed in the area.
SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said, "Additional Army force and local police have been deployed in the area."
Security has also been tightened along the International Border in Jammu where the Border Security Force (BSF) is on high alert.
Identity cards of essential services officials will be treated as movement passes wherever required, added SSP.
A security and law and order review meeting chaired by NSA Ajit Doval was held yesterday.
The Meeting was attended by K Vijay Kumar, Advisor to Governor, Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh, Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, DGP Dilbagh Singh, Chief Secretary B Subramaniam, and others.
Jammu and Kashmir has been under an unprecedented security cover and prohibitory orders banning large gatherings since August 4 - a day before the government announced that it has withdrawn special status for the state and will bifurcate it into two union territories.
