Grenade injures soldier near BJP rally site in J&K

A CRPF personnel was injured in a grenade attack near the venue of BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain's rally in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday. The injured personnel has been identified as Patil Parmakar of 40 Bn of CRPF.

Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was injured in a grenade attack near the venue of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s national spokesperson and DDC election in charge Shahnawaz Hussain's rally in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday minutes before his arrival at the venue, an official said.

According to the officials, militants lobbed a grenade at the security forces deployed near Bijbehara hospital, which is located just two kilometres from the venue for BJP's rally.

"At around 12:30 pm, militants hurled a grenade at the security forces leaving one personnel of CRPF injured. He has been shifted to the hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be stable," the CRPF spokesperson told ETV Bharat.

"All leaders are safe. They were yet to arrive at the venue, Town Hall, which is around two kilometres from the place where the grenade was lobbed by the militants," he added.

He further said, "The injured personnel has been identified as Patil Parmakar of 40 Bn of CRPF. The area has been cordoned off and a massive search operation has been launched to nab the attackers."

On Wednesday, BJP had said that its senior leader Shahnawaz Hussain will address a public rally on Thursday in Anantnag's Bijbehara at 1 pm.
