J&K: Cop tests +ve for COVID-19, police headquarters sanitized

A senior Jammu and Kashmir police officer posted at the Police headquarters in Srinagar's Hyderpora area has tested positive for coronavirus. Following the incident, the premises of the Police Headquarters was sanitized. All contacts of the infected officer have been traced and samples collected for testing.

Srinagar: In yet another case of cop testing positive for COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer posted at the Police headquarters (PHQ) in Srinagar's Hyderpora area was found to be infected with COVID-19 on Monday.

"A Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officer has tested positive for coronavirus and following which sanitization of the premises (PHQ) was done," a senior police official said.

He further said, "All the police personnel, including officers, were evacuated while premises were declared out of bounds for the sanitization process to complete."

According to the official, all the contacts of the officer have been traced and samples collected for testing.

This is not the first time when security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir have been tested positive for the virus.

On June 14, Ten CRPF personnel and five policemen were tested positive for the disease in the newly formed Union Territory. While five cops were posted in south Kashmir's Shopian district police lines, 10 CRPF personnel were from different battalions posted in the same area.
