Srinagar: The tourist destination Gulmarg will be closed for local tourists on weekends. The decision was taken by the district administration Baramulla in view of the prevailing Covid situation. The administration has decided to impose a ban on local day-picnickers at the popular ski resort.
An order was issued in this regard by District Magistrate Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar. According to the order, only vaccinated persons and those having negative Covid-19 certificates will be allowed to enter the tourist destination.
"In order to contain the spread of COVID-19 disease at tourist destination Gulmarg, I, Bhupinder Kumar, District Magistrate Baramulla, by virtue of powers vested in me under The Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and Section 34 of the National Disaster Management Act, 2005, in my capacity as the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Baramulla, hereby order that no local day-picnickers shall be allowed to enter tourist destination Gulmarg on weekend days," the order read.
The order further says that "only vaccinated persons or persons possessing Negative Test Report of RAT/RTPCR conducted within 48 hours shall be allowed to enter tourist destination Gulmarg."

According to the order, tourists who have pre-booked hotels, guest houses, huts etc. at the tourist destination will be the only ones allowed on weekend days (Saturday & Sunday).
The administration has also decided to impose a fine of Rs 1000 on persons found roaming without masks.
DC Baramulla has directed the SDM Gulmarg and SDPO Tangmarg to ensure the enforcement of the order with immediate effect.
