Jammu and Kashmir: Two terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

Two unidentified terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian on Tuesday morning. Police and security forces are engaged in the operation.

Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir): Two unidentified terrorists were killed in an ongoing operation between security forces and terrorists in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said.

"The two terrorists killed in Kutpora have not been identified yet. Operation is going on," police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kutpora area of the south Kashmir district following specific information about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the security forces, who retaliated.

The exchange of firing is going on and further details were awaited, the official added.

Two terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

Earlier on Monday, Additional Director General of BSF, Surinder Pawar said that terrorist activities at the launching pads across the Line of Control (LoC) have not died down but the troops are ready to face the challenge.

At least, 250 to 300 militants are still present at the launch pads across LoC waiting to infiltrate in the valley before snowfall begins, he said.

Earlier on November 8, at least four security force personnel, including an Army officer, and three militants were killed during a failed infiltration bid by the ultras along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The militants made an abortive bid to infiltrate into this side of the LoC in Machil sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district during the night and the infiltrators were challenged and three of them were killed.

Two AK rifles with two magazines and 60 rounds, a pistol with two magazines and 29 rounds, a radio set and Rs 50,000 were seized from the site.
